A message from our Pastor

Psalm 91:3-4

"Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler."

The psalmist, after assuring us of the wonderful truths that our God is our refuge, our fortress, our hiding place and One in whom we can put our trust, continues by spelling out to us just how much we can trust Him.

He will deliver us from both the snare of the fowler and the perilous pestilence. The snare of the fowler represents all that seeks to entangle us and trap us; all deceit, lies and falsehoods; all the wiles of the devil with his subtle plots and ploys to trip us up and spoil us as the Lord’s chosen ones. The perilous pestilence is that most dangerous of diseases, sin. It is perilous to all who contract it and deadly to all who have no deliverer. We who are the Lord’s people, however, have a great Deliverer Who will come to our aid and deliver us from them all.

How will He do this? Firstly, He is our refuge and we can flee to Him when trouble approaches. Like a doting mother hen, He is always there for us and is a sure and certain place of safety for all His loved ones. Secondly, He provides His children with the Truth which gives them double protection in the heat of battle; a shield to protect against the fiery darts of the wicked one that seeks to pierce us with temptations and a coat of mail to deflect any thrusts of doubt or lies he would aim at our hearts. So equipped, the saint is truly safe, even in the thick of the battle.

During Covid-19 we may have been, and still may be, afflicted with many temptations, doubts and fears, but we can fly to our refuge and find all the protection and help we need in Him who loves us, verse 9.
