A message from our Pastor
Psalm 91:9-10
"Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling."
What a privileged position we hold, in this fallen world, to be called the children of God. No- one else knows what it is like to be loved and cared for by the Almighty; to know that our lives are safe in His keeping. We do and, therefore, should take great care to live out the Christian life in a way that will always bring Him glory. We need to show those around us that we really do trust our lives and our souls to the keeping of our God and Saviour. As the Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 1 v 12, “for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him against that day.”
Here in Psalm 91 the psalmist professes that same confidence in our God and assures us that we can be as confident as he is.
Firstly, he tells us that if we have made the LORD, the Most High, our dwelling place, He will be a refuge to us also and we too can be confident that God will keep us. Think about this, friends, our God is the LORD, He is Jehovah, the mighty One who made Heaven and earth and Who rules sovereignly over all. He is the Most High, there is none higher than Him. Everything and all answer to Him and are subject to His sovereign will. If we make Him our dwelling place, He is the most perfect refuge that we can have in all the storms of life and we are safe in Him.
Secondly, he assures us that, if He is our dwelling place, then no evil can fall on us nor any plague come near us. How can they? He Who is sovereign of the whole universe keeps us and loves us and, therefore, no evil, nor any plague will decide anything for us. The evils of this world, whether they be the wicked designs of fallen men or the natural disasters of this fallen world, do not decide our life or our future. We are safe in His Almighty hands.
Aren’t you then, like the Apostle Paul, fully persuaded and have no doubt in your mind, that He, the Almighty, sovereign God, who is your Father, is completely able to keep your life and your soul, that you have committed into His loving hands, against anything that is in heaven or earth can throw at you, until that day when He comes for you? Then we can go boldly where mere men fear to tread!
