A message from our Pastor

Psalm 91:14–16

“Because He has set His love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

When we assure people of these promises we must remember that they are meant for believers and not for non-believers. God does not promise to deliver those who will not believe on Him, from all their trouble. Only those who have set their love upon God and love Him with all their heart and soul and mind and strength; those who have known Him by name and can call Him their God and Saviour, can rest in the absolute truth of these promises. These promises are ours. We alone have the great privilege of knowing that we are heard and answered by our God when we call upon Him in the day of trouble. We alone are those whom He will satisfy with long life and see His salvation. We truly are honoured by our God.

Let us reflect a while, on these promises.

Firstly, He promises to deliver us and set us on high. We will be delivered from this fallen world and fallen, frail bodies. He will deliver us from the grave, from judgement and from hell and set us on High, with Himself, in the glories of Heaven. He who has promised is faithful and will do it. None of His loved ones will be lost. All of His redeemed people will be with Him on high. What confidence this affords us. We can go through this world knowing that whatever befalls us, he will keep us to the end.

Secondly, He promises that when we call upon Him, He will hear us and answer us. He will not ignore us, nor deny us. He cares for us and loves us and assures us that we can come boldly before His throne of grace and we will be received and heard and blessed by His answering us. And when we cry out to Him in our troubles, he comes to our aid and is with us through them all, to deliver us and heap honour upon us as those who have overcome in Him.

Thirdly, He promises to satisfy us with long life or length of days. Our life will be satisfying and fulfilled in Him, for as long as we shall live. And when we come to the end of this life we shall see the salvation of our Lord. He will not lose us. He will not leave us nor forsake us. We can say with Job, “I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.”
