The Gospel

If you would like to find out more, we warmly invite you to come to our Gospel Service, which we hold every Sunday at 11:15am, where our need of salvation and how we can be saved is explained more fully.

Two thousand years ago Christ declared:

Man shall not live by bread alone

But we are still trying to aren't we? Now Jesus is not denying that bread is needed to sustain life as part of our staple diet; that's why He says by bread alone. But there's more to life than just fulfilling our physical needs and gratifying out physical desires. We know this to be true, don't we, because no matter how much we have of these things, they ultimately leave us unfulfilled and wanting more.

Ferdinand Rothschild, one of the richest men of his day, held lavish dinner parties in his palatial mansion every week. These parties lasted from Friday to Monday and no expense was spared in providing anything he or his guests desired. But he said of himself: "I am a lonely, suffering, miserable individual despite the marble rooms in which I live." Why did he feel this way? After all he had everything money could buy from the day he was born to the day he died. Why do the super-ruch celebrities like Whitney Houston wreck their lives with drink and drugs if having everything makes you happy?

Jesus said:

Life is more than food and the body more than clothing

There are times in our lives when we all realise this. Those times when we think, 'There's got to be more to life than this'. And there should be. God gave us life, not just so that we could enjoy His creation, but so that we could know Him personally in our lives; His love, His care, and enjoy His blessings upon us. To do this He not only gave us a body and a soul, so that we could function as intelligent, moral beings, but a spirit so that we could know, love, worship and serve Him.

God is a Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

But we have a problem; we are born with a sinful nature and from a very early age begin to sin which makes us:

Dead in trespasses and sins

That's why we have this emptiness in our lives; it is the void left in us by our dead spirits and try as we may to fill it with the things of this worldwe never can. Don't you feel it friends? Don't you feel that emptiness within? Don't you feel that there is something fundamental missing from your life? But nothing you do is ultimately satisfying, is it? We may try to reach out to God but He seems unreachable, doesn't He? How can our dead spirits be revived so that we can be complete and know God? Jesus said:

Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God

We can have spiritual life but only by following what God has told us in Hid Word. For instance Jesus said:

Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you - I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger and he who believes in Me shall never thirst - I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly

Do you want to have life more abundantly? Do you want to be born again spiritually and have spiritual life so that you can know God personally through his life and through eternity? Then believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, repent of your sinful life, and trust in His sacrifice for sin on Calvary.
